The Shoreham Hotel, NYC

written by leslie fitzsimons

In my experience, when visiting a new city or returning to one of my favourites, it is usually always first about the hotel’s location! The second thought is, “Does the hotel have a great style?” Look no further fellow travelers, I found the hotel for your next visit to the Big Apple.

This hotel is in the perfect location for seeing all of New York City. The Shoreham Hotel at 33 West 55th Street is in the core of Midtown Manhattan, in the midst of Manhattan’s Gold Coast. Situated right between 5th & 6th Avenue, a short taxi drive or walk in all directions leads you to multiple museums, Central Park, Rockefeller Centre, Carnegie Hall, and fabulous shopping and dining.

An exceptionally friendly and accommodating staff welcomes you with a glass of
champagne when you arrive at this 174 room boutique hotel, which has been beautifully renovated in the last few years and the outcome is a refreshing, serene, stylish retreat. The lobby is hip and fresh with great music as you enter your serene oasis. The Shoreham offers numerous types of contemporary styled guestrooms, suites, junior suites, and there is also a 980 square foot loft penthouse with terrace. Flat-screen TVs, often more than one, are a standard in every suite. The amenities at this hotel are extensive and consciously thought out, which include refrigerators, rain shower heads, slate vanity counters, brushed stainless sinks with Axor nickel fixtures, pillow-top mattresses, luxury linens, terry robes, Voss water, chocolates, and Aveda bath products. In-room spa services are also available. The nature-inspired soft green/kiwi colour palette is very relaxing after a long day buzzing about the city. Attention has been paid to great style,
and artistic innovation in the interior design of this hotel. The clean-lined furniture and soft fabrics appeal to the senses for your relaxation and comfort.

Visitors will have access to FITNES – a health club with state-of-the-art equipment
and amenities. The hotel also has meeting space in the executive boardroom that
can be organised for sit-down meetings to include the adjacent lounge.

The Shoreham Bar on the main level facing 55th Street is a fantastic intimate space with beautifully designed lighting and an intimate feel. This warm contemporary space uses “living glass” (a layer of silk leaves between sheets of glass). Simple pre-formed lime green lounge-style seating, designed by Kazuhide Takahama for Knoll, with low glass and brushed aluminum tables provides
seating for 60 dinner guests. The colours are organic – sage, celery, lime, and aqua. There are always fresh flowers and burning candles in the bar to create the relaxed mood.

CIA-trained chef Tim Reardon uses diverse culinary inspirations from America, the Mediterranean, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The bar has a very creative martini menu to include the signature “I Shoreham Happy” with Level Vodka, Amaretto di Saronno, and pomegranate juice. The restaurant is open for breakfast through dinner until midnight. Reardon also does a marvelous Sunday brunch.

The Shoreham Hotel is a delight to return to every day after the excitement and exploration of the most exciting city in the world. Your home away from home.

Did I mention the 24-hour self-serve coffee/ tea/cappuccino bar on the main floor lobby?
